Low Key Day

This apartment in interesting.

What is interesting is how old it is by North American standards.  It was built before electricity, running water and central heat.  It is old.  Every room has a small fireplace for burning coal.  All plumbing and all wiring are run along the surfaces of the solid walls.  We have steam pipes, water pipes, electrical cable and cable TV cables all over the place.

There is nothing uncomfortable, or antiquated about the apartment (heck, we have wireless internet), but it is just different.  A half a block down from us, on our side of the street, are a couple of medieval homes (http://www.davidphenry.com/Paris/paris138_fr.htm) which make our apartment look modern.

After dawdling around the apartment this morning, we decided to do Frommer’s Walk #14, which is basically along Avenue des Champs-Élysées.  Apparently things are open there on Sundays, so it seemed like a good choice.

As we left the apartment, it began drizzling.  … You already know where this story is going...  We abandoned the walk about halfway through the Jardin des Tuileries, because it was pouring rain.  The Tuileries were interesting for some of the sculpture.  We will return.

After the abandoned walk, we went grocery shopping (we are slowly figuring out this Sunday thing), Diane went to a movie (about the guy buried alive) and I wandered around the underground Louvre complex.  A low key day.

I enjoyed your thoughts as well as the photographs regarding your apartment and how age is relative. And when I clicked on the link you provided, my mouth dropped open when I viewed the medieval homes. Like most aspects of life, it's all relative. Very productive dawdling.

Interesting that Diane was watching a movie about a guy buried alive while your were underground, wandering around. Diane, I do hope you blog about your Paris movie experience. We will be wondering if they serve over-sized buckets of popcorn or fruit and cheese?
